NUDITY, DANCE AND PAGAN DANCE

Altar Baykal dancing in his home-shrine

In paganism, dance is sacred and pagan dance is usually performed while naked. Let me start by talking about the causality (or the explanation of its truth) of this sentence by first talking about nudity… I will come to dance later.

- Nudity is our natural state, therefore it is the closest state to nature. Nature and naturalness are elements that provide both psychological and physiological health.

  - Everyone is equal when naked; nudity is the environment where distinction, knowledge, leadership and hierarchy are at their weakest. Concepts such as superiority and power are contrary to paganism, especially matriarchal paganism.

- The purpose of nudity is not necessarily to expose oneself. The reason for nudity can also be to draw attention to the beauties of the human body. When looking at a naked (and even aesthetic) body, erotic feelings can be felt… but sublime feelings such as admiration, respect and imitation (desire to resemble) can also be awakened. Beyond all of this, admiration, respect and desire to resemble can also be confused with erotic awakening.

The clothes are additions invented by the prophet Idris. Idris is the mysterious prophet Enoch who entered Paradise while alive with a trick according to legend.

Also, the act of covering is an event that began in religious myths when human beings were expelled from Paradise to the world according to monotheist religions.

Let me come to the subject of dance.

Dance is done with the body. The body is a tool, an equipment that tells the inspiration of the music with its dance. If access to the equipment is difficult, the result will not be productive. If the body movements cannot be followed clearly (in detail), its calls cannot be heard completely. Therefore, every piece of cloth that covers the body will not be able to fulfill the magic of the dance and destroys energy.

Also, clothes can be hindering for the dancer.

Since the aforementioned fact was seen even in the 1800s, ballerinas and ballet dancers (especially according to the sexual moral values of that period) danced in clothes that could be called naked.

Finally, let's talk about pagan dance.

Paganism, due to its "oneness" with nature, is in close relation with the most natural act, sexuality, and our most natural state, nudity. If pagan dance is performed to get closer to God (and since we can get closer to God most easily with our most natural state), the necessity of being naked even emerges. It should not be overlooked that we come from to life naked and we will go from life naked.

Pagan dance can also be applied due to eroticism. Eroticism is as sacred as sex in paganism. Eroticism is a more veiled and art-oriented version of simple sex.

Eroticism: Why It Still Matters - Ferdinand Fellmann

(Chemnitz University of Technology, Department of Philosophy)

Eroticism, in all its contexts, does not refer to sexual techniques, but rather gives an interpretation of sexual desire.

In eroticism, there is poetry, lyricism (expressing personal feelings, inner world through inspiration, in an enthusiastic and effective way), in other words, emotions and feelings, as well as nudity. However, in the society called "modern" (modern society) but which is actually utilitarian and hypocritical, eroticism is wasted as a gateway to discharge the need for sex.
